How We Met
Daniel and I met each other playing volleyball on Saturdays with our singles ward in Midvale, Utah. After a few weeks, he asked for my phone number after a Saturday night Stake Conference session. We began texting each other, and continued playing volleyball on Saturdays. Around the first of December, Daniel invited my roommate, Kelli and me to a Grizzlies Hockey game that his work had tickets to. It turned out to be Daniel and 6 girls at the hockey game-he sat by me though!
Our First Date
For our date, I met Daniel at the E center for yet another Grizzlies game-free tickets from work again. We watched some of the game, but mostly just chatted. After the game we met up with my roommate, Kellie, and her boyfriend, Dallin, to eat pizza and play games at our apartment. We ended up playing a game called “things” for most of the night. It was a great way to be myself through silly questions, but to learn more about Daniel. At midnight we hugged and wished each other a happy new year. We made plans to go out the following week.
Dating
Daniel and I started officially dating the middle of January. We continued to play volleyball with our singles ward and with recreation teams. Around the beginning of May we took a weekend trip down to Arizona to visit friends of mine from when I lived in Mesa. It was a great week and we thoroughly enjoyed our first trip together. So much so, that we said “I love you” to each other a day or two after we returned.
Engagement
Daniel proposed to me at Liberty Park. He had told me he wanted to feed the ducks with some bread that he had. We drove to the park and realized that due to an oil/gas spill, there were no ducks. So we got a blanket and found a spot to just sit and talk. Soon a family showed up and sat quite close to us. We moved to another spot. It began to rain. So we moved to another spot. While we were at this spot, I asked Daniel something and he asked me to sit up for the answer. I thought for sure he was going to break up with me. Instead, he gave me a resume I’d written months earlier, “applying” to be his girlfriend. He also had his response to that email printed up and with him. We read over both and laughed. He then gave me another paper in an envelope. It was a heartfelt letter from Daniel telling me how much he cared for me and other mushy stuff. He told me that he was not hiring me to be his girlfriend, but his wife for eternity. I looked at him and there he was with a ring in a box. It was a gorgeous, fake, ring! I began stuttering and asking all sorts of questions. Finally I said yes! We went up to Logan that week and picked out a beautiful, real, ring. It was supposed to be sized and ready for pick up that Saturday. On Friday, Daniel came to my class to tell them about me since I was the Very Important Kid for the week. At the end of the Brag About, Daniel brought out my ring! Again I began to stutter wondering how he’d gotten the ring since I’d been with him every night since we’d gone to Logan. My 5th graders were thrilled and even cheered when we kissed.
Wedding
Instead of doing everything in one day, Daniel and I decided to do our wedding reception the night before we got married. We had our wedding reception at the Commander’s House in Salt Lake City. Our colors were deep red, yellow, orange and brown. I love fall colors and wanted them for my wedding colors. We served hot chocolate, apple cider and cinnamon rolls. I also love fall comfort foods such as those fine foods J The reception was a blast. It was great seeing all of our friends and family. After the reception we drove up to Ensign Peak to exchange gifts that we’d bought for each other. Really. After we parked the car, another car drove up behind us-a parking cop! He “happily” gave us a ticket for “parking”. We were NOT happy, but it now makes for a funny story. We drove to another spot and exchanged our gifts-Daniel gave me a NOOK. I gave him a watch and a desk calendar with pictures of us. Thursday morning, 10-14-10 was a great day. I drove to the temple with my parents to meet Daniel and his parents. The ceremony was wonderful with such great council and support from our loved ones. After the ceremony we took pictures, then had lunch at a nearby church. The catering company outdid themselves. Debbie knows how to find good food! For our honeymoon, Daniel and I went to West Palm Beach, Florida. We had an amazing suite with maids that even did our dishes! We went snorkeling, kayaking and enjoyed the warm weather and beautiful beach.
A week after we got back from our week long honeymoon, we had another reception in Orem. It was at the beautiful green house, Sun River Gardens. Again, it was a great night chatting and laughing with loved ones. A friend of the Taylors catered the food, and she did a wonderful job.
We are so happy to be the Taylors. Hopefully as the journey continues we’ll have more and more tales to tell!
