Ah traditions! So it has been a tradition, an unwritten rule, that with those malt easter eggs you HAVE to lick them and put the candy coating on your lips. My friend Elise can attest to that tradition. Every Easter in college we'd do that with our candy. Good memories and a VERY good tradition.
Another tradition Daniel and I decided to start this year (it is our 1st Easter married and together-I was on a cruise last year) is to blow out the insides of 1 egg every year to keep. This year we decided to do 6 "Tie-Dyed" eggs. I saw it done on that Our Best Bites blog that I love. It just so happens that Daniel has a large collection of ties. He's been talking about going through his collection and getting rid of ties. So we went through his ties and found all the ones he didn't like. Then we found the 100% silk ties from that pile and made ourselves some eggs! It was fun.
I couldn't waste the eggs, so with the insides I made an egg rollup. It was yummy, but I'll stick to the recipe next time and add the right amount of bacon and peppers. Ours needed more bacon and less peppers. We LOVE bacon!
The week before Easter was my Spring Break, so I had lots of time to spare! I decided to make an Easter Flag Banner while I watched Cleopatra on TV. We just read that book for book club. I really liked the book. I felt so smart reading it and learning about Cleopatra. So it was fun to watch it on TV and see the similarities and differences. (There sure was lots of flesh in the movie-not just the women either! The soldiers had REALLY short skirts on!)
Then to wrap up the festivities, Daniel and I gave each other baskets Sunday morning. Growing up, in my family, it was a tradition for the eggs and Easter baskets to be hidden by the Easter Bunny. So I hid Daniel's basket in our closet (I just put it on our dresser in the closet). He had my basket waiting for me in the kitchen when I came out for breakfast. It was cute and pink and filled with lots of yummy treats!! It even had Peeps on a stick. I love peeps-a day old is even better!
For dinner we went to my parents. We were in charge of cut up fruit. I've had problems with strawberries getting moldy really fast cuz of the water on them sitting in the fridge. So after washing them off I let them dry on my cookie rack. They looked so cute I had to take a picture! It made me hopeful for spring, until it snowed Friday. GRR!!! Oh well, happy late Easter!
You guys are cute. Those eggs look cool!
