Flood Damage

President's Day weekend our awesome toilet decided to get plugged up.  Previous to that happening, the bubble/bobble thing that rises with the water and then stops the water from filling up the tank, decided to stop working too.  The combo of these two things led to a messy situation.  On Monday afternoon we think the toilet was clogged and continued running for quiet some time without the bobble stopping the water flow.  When Daniel came home from work that night he stepped into the closet to change and stepped onto wet carpet. We then found that the carpet leading into the bathroom was wet too!  We quickly ate dinner, put Variah to bed and then assessed the situation.  We found out that the bathroom floor must be a bit slanted because the water had gone away from the toilet and to the outside wall of our house, to the wall connecting the bathroom to the bedroom and the closet doorway.  The water seaped from the tile floor to the basement ceiling, soaking through the insulation down the outside walls of the basement soaking the wall insulation and the cement, dripping from the ceiling onto our treadmill making a puddle, dripping from the ceiling onto the carpet soaking through to the pad below! OH MY GOODNESS!!! It was a mess.  We had to pull up the carpet in our bedroom and some of the pad, move our bed and put the mattress in our family room, pull our insulation from the ceiling and the walls in the basement, roll up the pad under the basement carpet, lift up the carpet and elevate it to dry, mop up the treadmill and place fans to dry out all the wet places!  Luckily the basement isn't finished and the carpet and pad down there was the old stuff from our family room.  We've also been talking about getting new carpet for everywhere upstairs except for the family room.  So this mess got us started on pricing out carpet.  Still not a fun thing to have to deal with for sure!

Luckily no unexpected visitors showed up!

The carpet in our room had to be torn up on the outside wall and the wall

The ceiling insulation Daniel removed, the couch got wet and my papazan chair cushion was soaked!

Rolled up wet pad

It was not a fun evening having to clean all of this up!

  1. Ew, that looks awful!! I'm sorry. What a pain in the bum. Our house flooded on the previous owners (the owner had a mini stroke while filling up the tub). But I was looking over the paperwork and they had UDK come clean it up. They sprayed like anti-mold stuff everywhere. You've probably put it all back together, but maybe you'd want to do that too just in case! Just a thought.

  2. What?! Why didn't you tell me about this? We could have come over and helped you know.
