Staycation

So back in February we found out Daniel was going to have a work incentive trip for the Distributors to Cabo San Lucus at the end of June.  We decided to make that our goal for a trip for just the two of us.  I started talking to my doctor about how to wean Variah off of nursing and talked to Ciara and Austin about babysitting.  The start of May I had Austin and Ciara come down to babysit Variah for a couple of hours, then a couple of times Ciara came down to hang out with Variah and see how her daily schedule went and to meet my neighbor who was gonna be an emergency go to person.  Pretty much everything that could be done to prepare Variah and us for the trip was done.

Well about a week before we were supposed to go on our trip, we found out it wasn't going to happen at that time because there weren't enough distributors qualified to make the trip worth it.  WHAT?! I was so sad.  All that prep...Variah totally weaned off of nursing with a month to go before her 1st birthday...my white body all ready to get tan...I then remembered how lucky I am to be a mom and stopped whining so much.  Luckily Daniel is a great husband and felt horrible I wasn't going to get away like we'd planned. So a staycation to downtown Salt Lake was planned.  Far enough away to call it a vacation, but not too far if we needed to be there for Ciara and Austin.  So we booked a room at the Little America and Ciara and Austin came down on Thursday afternoon to be parents for the next couple of days.  (Side Note: when I told Ciara we weren't going to Cabo she told me she would still come down to my house and watch Variah so I could sleep in and lay out in the backyard.  She volunteered Austin to bring me drinks.  We laughed saying we could get a kiddy pool for me to soak my feet in and have Austin speak spanish out the window like I'd  hear if I was in Mexico.  I loved that Ciara would've done that for me!)

So we were off

That first night we went and saw Monsters University.  It was a cute movie and we enjoyed it.  We don't go out to movies very often, so this was a nice change up.

The next morning we had breakfast in bed at like 10:00, so nice to both be able to sleep in.  On the weekends we take turns sleeping in, well mostly me sleeping in and Daniel getting up to play with Variah.

So nice to have yummy food made by someone else :)

Ciara and Austin sent us this picture-Variah grabbed Ciara's purse and headed toward the door. I guess she wanted to go shopping

We spent the day at the pool getting sunburned (Daniel) and swimming

I've heard a ton about the macarons at La Bonne Vie so we had to try them on our last day.  They were good, the coconut one was my favorite.  I don't think I'd buy them again, but fun to at least try them out right?

It was so nice to just get away and relax.  I didn't have to worry about a food schedule or any schedule for that matter.  I felt pretty spoiled because I know some moms who don't get to go on a trip without their kids until their kids are 2 or 3. So I know I am very lucky to have been able to do that.  I totally missed Variah and was happy to see her on Saturday when we got home.  The funny thing was that when we walked in the door she wasn't super excited to see us. I thought she'd go crazy since I've only been away from her for 3 hours max since I had her.  But nope, she was excited to see us, but she seemed like it was no big deal that we'd gone.  I guess I can just attribute that to her having such a fun time with Ciara and Austin! She sure loves them.  It really was a great get away and it helped me feel recharged and grateful to be a mom.  When I look at this sweet girl, how can I not be grateful?

Thanks Ciara and Austin for letting Daniel and me have a break! We sure appreciated it! Mucho Much! And thanks to Daniel who insisted that we get away and have a lazy weekend so that I could get a break.  He made sure that we did what I wanted to do and ate where I wanted to and just kept it chill.  I am one lucky lady!
