I've got a question...

So I am reading the book, The Other Wes Moore. While reading it today, one of the characters asked, "When did you feel like you'd become a man?" It made me think about when I felt like an adult. I'd have to say I really felt like an adult when I was student teaching in Logan and I had to lead the class of first graders out on their first fire drill. I remember tears filling my eyes as I looked at their young and scared faces and thinking "they are relying on me to take them to safety!" I've never been afraid or nervous about fire drills or earthquake drills. But that day something hit me as I saw several of those tiny first graders cover their ears and some even cry due to fright. And then they all turned to me to guide them to safety. I realized I was the adult in charge of getting those kids to safety and to calm their fears. Yes, it was just a drill and not an actual fire, but all the emotions were there. What about you? When did you feel like you'd become an adult?

  1. I remember when my mom dropped me of at the dorms my freshman year and after she left I thought, "if I need new socks, I'm going to have to buy them myself". It was terrifying. I'm pretty sure I shed a few tears. Good thing I learned that I could go home anytime and my parents would still take care of me. I wasn't even close to being a grown up yet.
