And here is the final trick:
At her 4 month dr. appointment she weighed 13 pounds and was 25 inches long. She also got shots at that appointment :( Not a fun thing to do, but she was a trooper and did great. In fact, that night we really tested her and made her sleep in her own room! My friend gave me a document/e book on this sleep training program. With Daniel's busy schedule we decided that the 20th was the best day to start. So that night we did our normal bedtime routine at 7:45 and Variah was asleep by 8:20. She woke up later that night at 10:40. Daniel went into the room with his noise canceling headphones and hung out with Variah. He sat right by her crib and comforted her every 10 minutes. She cried for 2 hours! Daniel was right by her side the whole time. She didn't wake up again until 2:00 and cried for 40 min. this time, again with Daniel comforting her. It was so hard for me listening to her cry on the monitor in our bedroom. But I had been waking up with Variah every 2 or 3 hours throughout the night! So when the dr. said she could start sleeping through the night, I was totally on board. It doesn't make it easy though. The next night she went down at 8:00 and only woke up a couple of times and for only 10-15 minutes. HOORAY!! So much for a little one to go through-and her parents as well! But from anything I've read or have heard from other parents, it is well worth it. Super hard on the heart, but the babies will learn to soothe themselves and be better sleepers in the years to come.
Some fun pictures of Variah:
