August

Daniel had to go to Peru for 2 weeks from July 29-August 9.  To keep ourselves entertained, Variah and I went one day to Petco to see the animals. We went on a great day because it was pet adoption day. There were lots of animals for Variah to look at and be amazed with. Her favorites were probably the birds and the ferrets.

One of the nights we spent at my folks place.  After the family dinner all of us adult girls were sitting around talking and Variah was playing. She got a wipe out of the wipe box and ripped off a small corner. Chels and my mom were worried she could stick it up her nose. I wasn't worried cuz she usually just wipes under her nose with the pieces of wipe. Chels told us a story about a little kid she knew that had shoved tissue up his nose and all the tricks she had tried to get it out.  As Chels was talking, we looked over at Variah and she had her finger up her nose! And sure enough the wipe was up there too. It was far enough up her nostril that I couldn't get it out.  So we tried getting her to blow her nose-no luck. Then we attempted tweezers, but that just agitated her more.  Annie said something about her sneezing and as if on cue, she sneezed, but snot came out of the wrong nostril.  Luckily she sneezed again shooting the wipe out and onto my finger.  Whew!
Yep, that is the nastiness on my finger! She's looking at me like what is that?

Because she has moved into a toddler bed here at home, the sleeping arrangements were a bit tricky at my parents'.  We decided to pull out the crib mattress from the crib and lay it on the floor. We were going to tie the door shut to another door, but she ended up going to sleep without attempting to come out of the room.  I checked on her just before I went to bed and this is what I found…
She really is such a funny sleeper!

She has learned how to lay down in the bathtub all by herself.  It makes washing her hair lots easier and I think she likes hearing herself talk.

I bought some sandwich shape cutters off of Amazon. She loves "elephant" sandwiches

My bathroom serenader :)

When Daniel got home from Peru, we were at my parents' for a bridal shower. When we got home Daniel was asleep on our bed, so Variah woke him up with a kiss.  We are super lucky cuz that is how she loves waking us up. Every morning after Daniel gets up with Variah, they come in to wake me up and I get a kiss from my sweet little girl.  I love waking up that way!

She really likes singing this song

One of the Mia Maids came over to get Volleyball help from us before tryouts.  While we were outside Variah decided to chill on the sidewalk and watch Bubble Guppies on the iPad.  So much for the fun of the outdoors!

On the 13th at my 35 week apt Dr Twelves told me I was dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced! She told me that I probably had 1 1/2 weeks-2 weeks before baby was coming! I was SHOCKED!! And the bad thing was that she was taking off for Lake Powell that Friday for a week! I couldn't believe I was that far along especially since I was only 35 weeks pregnant. She said they would get me to 37 weeks and I'd be just fine.  So we scheduled another visit for the week she'd be home and I'd be 37 weeks.  It definitely lit a fire under our behinds!

On August 15th we got new carpet in all of the upstairs rooms, closets, and hallways except the family room since we got new carpet there when we moved in.  So we had all of our stuff in the family room making it quite the mess!  Luckily I didn't go into labor with our house such a mess

All the old carpet on the lawn

The installer was super nice and did the "french style" on our carpets rather than the normal way to do carpet on stairs. (I think it helped the he and Daniel were speaking in Spanish with each other and had a connection with Hermosillo, Mexico)

Our master bedroom all carpeted with nice new carpet. We love how soft it is! No more builder grade carpet from the time the house was built.

We re-arranged our bedroom furniture when we moved it back into our room. It used to be against the window which limited us to decorating and we never opened to window because our bed blocked it.  We are loving the new arrangement.

Cute little Lawson Taylor was born that Friday to Spencer and Tiffany Taylor.  The day before Tiff had been to see Dr. Twelves-yes, we see the same dr. :)  Tiff was dilated to a 3 and 70% effaced at 38 weeks.  Not gonna lie, that scared me a bit thinking that I could really go at anytime!!

Our little singing girl loves when we sing to her after finishing her meal. She in returns sings for us if we finish our meals.  It makes mealtime lots more enjoyable!

We decided that we couldn't risk not getting maternity pictures, so Chelsea came out Sunday and we drove to a park to take pictures.  She did a great job and I will update this when I get all the edited pictures.  Here are some for the meantime:

With the soon arrival of our little guy we rushed to get his room all decorated with the things that we had. My mom sewed the blue onto the curtains, made the darling quilt, the dust ruffle and the sheets.  I think it is coming together nicely!

I made the orange crib rail guards :)

This is how Variah's new room looks right now. I forgot to mention that while Daniel was in Peru my parents came down one day to paint Variah's room with the new paint we got just before Daniel went out of town. I didn't tell Daniel and surprised him when he got home.  Thanks parents for helping and Daniel for finishing it all up with the white trim, door and last coat of white on the board and batten!

I'm still working on things to go on the walls in baby boy's room and Variah's room. But at least the big things are done and ready!

Before my 35 week apt my sisters, mom and I planned to go to the Cabin and have a girls weekend and make Halloween crafts. Luckily I was still pregnant by the time the 23rd rolled around. I had Dr Twelves nurse check me to make sure I was okay to go to the cabin. I was still a 3 and 90% effaced. So to the cabin I went.
Crafting!!

Our finished crafts

And since I was still pregnant, Chels took some more maternity pictures. Again, these are the raw pictures and haven't been edited. They will be updated later on:

It was a great weekend with just the girls!

I came home just in time to help Daniel with his "ice bucket challenge" Right now in social media people are being challenged to either dump a bucket of ice cold water on their heads or donate money to the ALS foundation. Daniel was nominated for the challenge by Rafael, the General Manager for 4Life in Spain. Variah has really liked watching all the ice bucket challenges on Facebook and Instagram. So she was really excited to participate as well.  It changed when she saw it first hand though.

The water in the cup was warm water so Variah could do the challenge. So luckily Daniel didn't have to endure cold water twice!

A few days later Anna (with Sam's encouragement) challenged me. So after putting Variah down for her nap I made this video.

And no, it is NOT a lifelong dream to participate in a wet t-shirt contest, but as I've watched some videos I laugh cuz some people are wearing white shirts which make me think of wet t-shirt contests!

At my 37 week apt on the 28th I was dilated to a 4 and 90% effaced! The Tuesday before my apt I totally thought we were going to the hospital to have our little guy. I was having contractions that were 60 sec. long and 3 minutes apart. When I got off the couch to finish packing the hospital bag, the contractions slowed and then stopped! WHAT?!  False labor-I never experienced anything like that with Variah. I guess this little one just wants to tease us and make sure he is REALLY ready to join us!

For labor day weekend we decided to go to the park and play. Variah really enjoyed having Daniel there to play with her and I enjoyed the cool temperatures-finally!

When we got back from the park, Daniel noticed the front flower bed had a puddle. As he looked closer he noticed that it was bubbling. Seriously?! So he began digging and found that our main water line into our house had cracked.

Luckily we have a friend and neighbor that is a plumber. He came over Saturday night and told us what we needed to do to fix it. We had to shut off our water and he would be back in the morning to temporarily fix it.  Luckily we were able to fill up some buckets of water and 1/3 of each bathtub. Dan came back the next morning and we got our water back on just in time for Church.  If it isn't one thing it is another.  Luckily no baby yet to add to this chaos!
